German Shepherd Dog / Rottweiler (short coat) Dog

Cricket the Dog needs a home

DOB: 2/4/10

Cricket was rescued when she was just one day old from the Orange County shelter.  She was dropped there with her three surviving siblings; her mom, a Rottweiler, rejected the litter and the owner wouldn't take care of them.  Fortunately she was rescued quickly and bottle raised, and has been around dogs, cats and people her entire life!

Cricket is an EXTREMELY EXUBERANT girl.  I wrote that in all caps because I can't overstate how high energy she is.  This is a dog that wants to go for walks, runs, hikes and whatever else you can do to keep her moving.  She is super playful and loves all sorts of toys, balls and the usual dog things.  She's currently living in a home with four other dogs and is always trying to play with them.  And if the dogs aren't responding, she'll try to play with the resident cats.  Which, from the cats' perspective, is not always welcome - but she certainly means no harm.

Cricket does occasionally enjoy some down time, and that's when she gets very cuddly and kissy, with people, cats or dogs.  She's crate trained and perfectly housebroken.  Sure, she does occasional dumb dog things, but that goes with the territory.

Cricket is not a dog that should be left to her own devices.  Perhaps when she's older and more stable that would be possible, but with her age and exuberance she needs to have strict boundaries set and kept for her.  She definitely responds very well to training, but as experienced dog people know, training is a continuing endeavor, and Cricket certainly needs to be in a home where this is an ongoing thing.

One very endearing thing about Cricket is her ears.  The bases are firm but the tips are very floppy.  Sometimes they are both flopped forward, sometimes back, and sometimes one goes each way.  Everyone who meets her sees those ears and giggles, and they really are something to behold.  It's like they have personalities of their own.
